Intention to practise

All midwives must notify their intention to practise on an annual basis via their named supervisor of midwives to the LSA. The date by which the annual intention to practise notifications must be made is 15 February 2013. Click here to see letter regarding annual ITP notifications.
Contact the LSA midwifery officer in the north east
The SHA holds the statutory responsibility for the Local Supervising Authority (LSA) for Midwives in the north east. It discharges this responsibility through the appointment of a local supervisory midwifery officer (LSAMO) for the north east.
The LSAMO is professionally accountable to the Nursing and Midwifery Council for the UK (NMC). The Midwives Rules and standards (NMC 2004) govern the framework in which midwives and supervisors of midwives meet the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Order 2001.
The function of the LSA is to ensure that statutory supervision of midwives is of a satisfactory standard and thus ensures safe and secure midwifery care within its boundaries.
