The Equality Duty 2010
The Equality Act 2010 introduced a general equality duty requiring organisations, in the exercise of their functions, to have due regard to the need to:
- Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act.
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
- Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
As part of the act, we are required by law to publish information to show that we have complied by this duty. Information relating to our employees and some specific staff policies as well as our equality objectives can be found below.
We also have a staff partnership network (SPN) to discuss issues which affect our employees. The SPN meets monthly and is made up of a representative cross section of staff.
News update
The North East SHA is in a state of preparation to be abolished by 31 March 2013. There has not been a current update on the internal SHA workforce by Equality Protected Characteristics, as these are no longer meaningful at this point as the entire workforce is in movement. The Equality Objectives set for the organisation is for 12 months from April 2012 to March 2013 this is reasonable and proportionate in the circumstances. An update on the Equality Objectives will be shared before 31 March 2013.
