Equality, diversity and human rights
Promoting equality, diversity and human rights
We are committed to taking equality and human rights into account in everything we do, whether that’s providing strategic leadership to the local NHS, employing people, developing policies, communicating, consulting or involving people in our work.
The Equality Duty 2010
The Equality Act 2010 introduced a general equality duty requiring organisations, in the exercise of their functions, to have due regard to the need to:
- Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act.
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
- Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
As part of the act, we are required by law to publish information to show that we have complied by this duty. Information relating to our employees and some specific staff policies as well as our equality objectives can be found below.
We also have a staff partnership network (SPN) to discuss issues which affect our employees. The SPN meets monthly and is made up of a representative cross section of staff.
