Our vision, our future sets out an agenda for putting the patient at the heart of everything we do. It is an ambitious strategy which requires good leaders. To help ensure that a ready supply of future leaders is developed for the future, here at the SHA we are putting in place a plan to:
-
take forward a leadership model
-
develop talent management
-
introduce leadership competencies and development for all
-
rigorously implement our executive level development programme
What is the SHA’s role?
We provide standards for leadership development programmes so local organisations can build their own and are developing a talent management framework they can adopt should they wish to.
We are also developing a talent pool for senior roles across NHS North East. We will support local organisations to have robust leadership development and talent management and succession plans in place using generic frameworks and minimum standards.
Why should organisations be interested?
Leadership has been the missing element of healthcare reform in the past. It is now vitally important for local organisations to consider leadership and talent management for all their staff so they have a workforce that is fit and able to deliver high quality care for all.
Each organisation needs to asses and secure its leadership capability to make sure that quality can truly be at the heart of all we do. But it isn’t just a senior management concern. Lord Darzi says that if the quality agenda is to succeed we need to put frontline staff in control and give them the freedom to act.
