Patient, carer and public engagement
-
Our ten year vision Our vision, our future has been developed after a review of north east health services by NHS professionals who provide care and treatment every day in our homes, GP surgeries, clinics and hospitals and also with staff, patients and the public.
This vision sets out a plan which puts the patient at the heart of what we do and describes how we will transform health services. Engaging with our local communities is key to make sure we continue to deliver improvements in our services, patient experience and improved care and this is clearly aligned to the NHS Constitution - you have a right to be involved in healthcare and the NHS.
To support this, the law has been strengthened so that the NHS is clearer about when it must involve people in planning, developing and delivering health services.
We are currently in the process of developing a patient, carer and public engagement strategy, which will be made available here.
Public opinion and polling
Latest public polling research, which looked at satisfaction with NHS services, shows that the north east has the highest satisfaction levels in the country with 90 per cent of people in the region agreeing that their local NHS provides a good service. Also, 85 per cent of people in the north east agree that the local NHS helps to improve the health and wellbeing of them and their family.

Understanding what patients think about the care and treatment they receive is crucial to improving the quality of services delivered by the NHS. The Care Quality Commission carries out regular surveys of patients.
